Richmond Auto Glass Repair FAQ
Is it safe to drive around Richmond with a cracked windshield?
It depends on the damage. A long crack, or one in the driver's line of sight, blocks your view and is not worth the risk. The windshield is also a structural part of the vehicle, so damaged glass leaves the frame weaker in a serious accident. If you cannot see the road clearly, do not drive.
Why did my windshield crack without anything hitting it?
Stress cracks form with no impact, usually starting at the windshield's edge and working inward. Temperature swings, vibration, and pressure cause them, and Richmond weather swings hard in both directions between seasons. Edge cracks grow faster than damage in the center because the perimeter is the least supported area of the glass.
What is the safest way to clear ice off my windshield here?
A plastic scraper with the defroster running. Caught without one, the defroster with the visors flipped down, a flat plastic card, tepid water, or a de-icer spray all work. Never use hot water, and never scrape aggressively. Both are common ways a Richmond winter morning turns into a replacement.
Does Auto Glass Now in Richmond, Virginia work with my insurance?
Yes. Auto Glass Now accepts all auto insurance and manages the claim from start to finish. Have your policy information ready, and we contact your insurer, confirm your coverage, and bill them directly. With comprehensive coverage you typically pay only your deductible, if any, though the amount can vary by provider and policy type.
Does my vehicle need ADAS calibration after a windshield replacement?
If it has camera-based safety features such as lane keep assist, lane departure warning, or adaptive cruise control, yes. The camera mounts to the windshield, so new glass means the camera has to be recalibrated to factory settings or those systems will not work correctly. Calibration is priced separately in your quote and is not included with the windshield.
Can I use the Richmond shop if I live in a nearby town?
Of course. Drivers from Bon Air, Meadowbrook, Midlothian, Brandermill and Woodlake, and other nearby communities use the Richmond shop. Bring the vehicle in, or check the mobile service area on this page if you would rather not drive on damaged glass. Either way, start with a free quote and inspection so you know the cost first.

Brandi L,Excellent service from start to finish! Robert did an excellent job replacing our passenger-side window and went above and beyond by cleaning all the broken glass from the seats, mats, and throughout the car.
Alison Bhola,I recently had the back window glass on my vehicle replaced by Auto Glass Now at their 6700 Midlothian Turnpike location after the first piece of glass turned out to be defective. From the beginning, Scotty and Trey Booth did everything they could to help resolve the issue. They went above and beyond to get the correct OEM glass ordered and made sure the replacement was completed professionally.
Mike Wolff,Got my windshield cracked on 95, was told I would have to replace the whole thing. Scottia was very helpful in answering all the questions that I had. Unfortunately, there was an issue with getting the OEM windshield for my car. But Scottia went above and beyond to help get one from Fredericksburg to Richmond. Communication was great, overall great experience.
Felisse Alexander,Someone had damaged my window Sunday evening. I gave a call to Auto Glass Now the next morning and was given a much better price than another I called before hand. Very nice and professional over the phone and was able to get my window fixed the same day I called. My friend took my car to get fixed it was a fast process and now my window looks amazing!
