Des Moines Auto Glass Repair FAQ
Can Des Moines winters turn a small chip into a full crack?
They can. Cold makes glass contract, and that pressure goes to work on damage that is already there. Blasting a hot defroster at an ice-covered windshield adds another sharp temperature swing. Cold alone will not crack a sound windshield, but around Des Moines it is what finishes off an existing chip, so handle chips before deep winter.
What caused a crack when nothing hit my windshield?
Stress cracks. They usually start at the edge of the windshield and work inward, set off by sharp temperature changes, vibration, or pressure rather than an impact. A Des Moines winter supplies all three, and ice pressing on damage you had not noticed adds to it. Edge cracks spread faster than damage in the center.
Can I run my car through a car wash with a cracked windshield?
Better not to. Des Moines drivers wash off road salt all winter, but pressure, warm water, and cold glass are exactly what make a crack run. Water also gets trapped inside the damage where it cannot evaporate. Rinse by hand and stay off the windshield until the glass has been repaired.
Is the work covered by a warranty?
Yes. Auto Glass Now provides a lifetime warranty on windshield repairs and replacements against leaks, molding issues, and glass defects, for as long as you own or lease the vehicle. It covers defects in workmanship and materials, and it does not transfer if you sell the vehicle. Some conditions apply, and your local store can confirm the details.
Can Auto Glass Now fix a window broken in a break-in?
Yes. We repair and replace glass after a break-in or vandalism, including windshields, rear windows, and side glass. Document the damage with photos, file a police report, and contact your insurer, since comprehensive coverage rather than liability is generally what applies to this kind of damage. Cover the opening while parked until your appointment.
Does the Des Moines shop serve nearby towns?
Yes. Our Des Moines location is a short drive from Johnston, Urbandale, Ankeny, West Des Moines and Waukee, and the surrounding communities. Walk-ins are welcome, though booking ahead is better since service depends on scheduling and glass availability that day. For mobile repair or replacement, check the service area listed on this page.
Customer Reviews
I had a great experience with Auto Glass Now! A truck and trailer passed me last night going like a bat out of hell and kicked a rock up that hit top of windshield on my truck. Not even a mile down road, a dip in the road jarred my windshield enough and it cracked sideways. I called a couple of places for quotes. I wasn't satisfied with price or scheduling so I called Auto Glass Now and spoke to a super nice gal named Arianna. She was great! She got me scheduled for a mobile replacement for my Super Ranger. Got it done same day and the price was affordable to me. Great customer service! I called around 10 am and by 12:45 pm the mobile techs were here and replaced my windshield! Techs were super friendly, did a great job too! My new windshield looks great and I'm super happy I called these guys!
Jennifer Wallace,I got there. I was running late so I called. She was very understanding and very polite. I got there i got a rock chip in my front window and checked in they took my car. They had a wonderful waiting room with cable TV and wifi charging station. They offered me water to me. So family friendly. It just took minutes. I was so impressed it was done. The price was great people were polite and very good service. I'm so happy. If you need a great place it a place to go.
Rose Opperman,They were able to get me in right away! Very affordable!! Treated my cat with care, and they had GREAT customer service. They sent me pictures to my email when job was done: which was very much appreciated!
Bri Rosales,I had a great experience with Auto Glass Now. They replaced my back window quickly, did excellent work, and offered a very fair price. The staff was professional, courteous, and made the entire process smooth and stress-free. I truly appreciate the fast service and quality workmanship. I would definitely recommend Auto Glass Now to anyone needing auto glass repair or replacement.
Donavan Six,I came in to get my windshield and back side window replaced due to a theft. The technicians and the front desk staff were really kind and accommodating. I got scheduled quickly and it took 2.5 hours but everything turned out perfectly. This shop went above and beyond by vacuuming up the busted glass inside the vehicle and pushing wires closed under my steering wheel that were exposed. I would highly recommend this shop and will be back as needed.
